Le Sidaner was born in 1862 in Port Louis, Mauritius. His paintings have the characteristic short brushstrokes typical of some of the Neo-Impressionists. This technique expresses the soft intimacy of interiors and tenderness of tranquil landscapes. Le Sidaner used this poetic effect often to catch the fleeting restlessness of twilight.
